Vinos Baettig is the family project of Francisco 'Pancho' Baettig, Chile's 2019 Winemaker of the Year, with partner Carlos de Carlos. Since 2013 they have farmed at Traiguen in the Malleco Valley, in the cool, high-rainfall south of La Araucania. 'Los Parientes' (the relatives) is the estate's vineyard-designate 'vino de vinedo', drawn from Pinot Noir on the clay soils of Traiguen and made as a fresher, more open counterpart to the parcel-selection Los Primos. Dry-farmed on ancient volcanic ground, the vines give a perfumed, red-fruited style, and the 2023 delivered vibrant strawberry and floral character with fine, silky tannins.

Fermentation included roughly 15 per cent whole clusters to add structure and lift while keeping the wine bright and fruit-forward. It was then aged for around eight months in oak, a small proportion new, giving a lighter touch of wood that lets the cherry, pomegranate and dried-flower aromatics show. Some 30,000 bottles were made. Dry, lean and taut, with stem tannin, oak and silky Pinot texture combining for a faintly plush yet gently grippy mouthfeel, it is a precise, easy-drinking wine from the deep south of Chile.
