Tasting Notes

Warramate occupies a particularly compelling position in the modern Yarra Valley landscape. Established in 1970 on a prized north-facing site, the estate benefits from mature vines, dry-grown vineyards and a pedigree that has long been recognised by those who know the region well.

Now under the ownership of Yarra Yering, Warramate has entered a significant new chapter. A renewed focus across the vineyard and winery has brought the same exacting philosophy and attention to detail that underpins one of Australia's most revered wine estates. The 2025 Chardonnay is a persuasive reflection of that evolution: unmistakably Yarra Valley in character, yet possessing the refinement, structure and quiet complexity that makes fine cool-climate Chardonnay so compelling.

For those who appreciate the finer expressions of the Yarra Valley, Warramate represents one of the most interesting discoveries currently emerging from the region.

Critic Scores

No mlf and about 20% new wood. First things first, I love the new label by Marina Strocchi that was commissioned by Yarra Yering. A bright green gold. Aromas of just-ripened stone fruits, a hint of vanilla pod and a little orange blossom. With its gentle fleshiness, this builds nicely through the mid-palate. Finishes with a touch of grip, rounding off a very keenly priced wine.

Ducks are in a row here. Beautiful wine, well priced, perfectly packaged. Pear, peach, brine, integrated cedar and a tonic water notes. It’s fluid, refreshing, flavoursome and stylish, with an impression of balance that borders on the exquisite.
