The Dream of William Grant
The year was 1887. William Grant, a former bookkeeper with a fierce determination and a passion for distilling, laid the first stones of what would become Glenfiddich with his own hands. Alongside his seven sons and two daughters, he constructed the distillery stone by stone in the glen of the River Fiddich.
On Christmas Day that same year, the first drop of spirit ran from the stills—marking the beginning of a legacy that would defy expectation and endure for generations.
What set Glenfiddich apart from the start was not just its craftsmanship, but its independence. It remains, to this day, one of the very few distilleries in Scotland that is still family-owned, now passed down through five generations of the Grant-Gordon family.
