Tasting Notes
Ardbeg BizarreBQ is not your typical Islay single malt. It is a fire-grilled, smoke-drenched, meat-lovers’ dream dram, a bold and experimental whisky that brings the backyard barbecue straight to your Glencairn glass. Created by Dr Bill Lumsden in partnership with Ardbeg’s resident pitmaster, this limited edition is matured in a fiery fusion of double charred oak, sherry casks, and bespoke barbecue casks, all designed to amplify the distillery’s famously peaty profile.
On the nose, there’s an explosion of aromas, sizzling bacon, spiced ribs, mesquite smoke, and cracked pepper. Beneath the smoke lies a subtle sweetness of treacle, maple glaze, and stewed apples. The palate is punchy and primal, with waves of charred meat, black liquorice, chilli chocolate, and barbecued citrus. There’s a lovely savoury-sweet interplay that keeps evolving.
The finish is long and warming, with lingering embers, burnt ends, and just a hint of smoked paprika.
