Description
Ashton Hills is a three hectare, dry-grown vineyard that lies in the Piccadilly Valley sub region of the Adelaide Hills on a ridge just below the summit of Mount Lofty. The estate was founded by Stephen George in 1982 and since that time it has built a reputation as one of Australia’s finest proponents of pinot noir and cool climate whites. The Adelaide Hills growing season commenced with one of the wettest winters on record, pushing back flowering, veraison - and ultimately harvest - by about four weeks on recent years. Fortunately, weather during ripening was dry without excessive heat spikes, leading to full flavour and colour development. The harvest saw average yields, with the vines hand-thinned to maximise flavour and concentration. Three clones from our estate made the cut for this wine with Martini heading the list at 57%, D5V12 at 33% and 10% from MV6, This Estate Pinot Nair was matured in a combination of new and seasoned French oak for 12 months. Drink now or cellar for around 5 years for further complexity.
