Founded in 1982, Ashton Hills became a pioneering name in the Adelaide Hills, with Stephen George championing Pinot Noir in a region once better known for other varieties. The Reserve represents the estate’s most serious expression of this cool-climate tradition.

Perfumed red cherry, raspberry and earthy spice combine with silky tannins and fine acidity. Elegant yet flavourful, it’s a beautiful match for duck, roast chicken, salmon or mushroom dishes.

Tasting Notes

Ashton Hills Vineyard Reserve Pinot Noir 2015 is a refined expression of cool-climate Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir, sourced from a premium private cellar. Founded in 1982, Ashton Hills became a pioneering name in South Australian wine, with Stephen George championing Pinot Noir in a region once better known for other varieties.

The Reserve represents the estate’s most serious expression of this distinctive tradition. Perfumed aromas and flavours of red cherry, raspberry and earthy spice unfold across the palate, supported by silky tannins and fine, refreshing acidity. Elegant yet flavourful, this beautifully balanced Australian red wine offers impressive detail, poise and graceful length.

A sophisticated choice for enjoying mature Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir, it pairs wonderfully with duck, roast chicken, salmon and richly flavoured mushroom dishes.

Critic Scores

50% from the oldest (33yo) estate vines with three of the five preferred clones (D5V12, Martini and 777) contributing, 33% matured in new French oak. Has great colour, and the bouquet fills the senses with the first whiff, spices leading the way, then the full cavalcade following on the palate: earth, forest, plum, dark cherry, oak and fine but persistent tannins all in play.

About this Wine

Pinot Noir

A thin-skinned red grape known for its light body, red fruit character, and sensitivity to terroir, grown around the world.

South Australia

If you like Australian wine, then you probably like South Australia wine. The rich reds produced there put Australia on the wine-making map of the world. With over 40% of the countries vineyards, South Australia can rightfully call itself the wine state.

Wines are produced in several regions throughout the state, though many are naturally grouped together, like Barossa and Eden Valleys, only 15 minutes apart. They include such regions as Barossa Valley, Clare Valley, Eden Valley, Coonawarra, Adelaide Hills, Kangaroo Island, Langhorne Creek, The Limestone Coast, McLaren Vale and Wrattonbully to name but a few!

Barossa Valley boasts some of the oldest vines in Australia dating back to 1843 and produces some of the world's finest Shiraz, whilst the 'terra rossa' soils of Coonawarra is most suited to producing outstanding Cabernet Sauvignons. If you're a fan of Riesling, Clare Valley is a great place to explore and for a Maritime climate not dissimilar to parts of the Italian coastline, seek out the wines from McLaren Vale.
