Founded in 1982, Ashton Hills became a pioneering name in the Adelaide Hills, with Stephen George championing Pinot Noir in a region once better known for other varieties. The Reserve represents the estate’s most serious expression of this cool-climate tradition.

Perfumed red cherry, raspberry and earthy spice combine with silky tannins and fine acidity. Elegant yet flavourful, it’s a beautiful match for duck, roast chicken, salmon or mushroom dishes.

Tasting Notes

Ashton Hills Vineyard Reserve Pinot Noir 2018 is a distinguished cool-climate Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir, sourced from a premium private cellar. Founded in 1982, Ashton Hills Vineyard became a pioneering name in the region, with Stephen George championing Pinot Noir when the Adelaide Hills was better known for other varieties.

The Reserve represents the estate’s most serious expression of this elegant South Australian wine tradition. Fragrant aromas of red cherry, raspberry and earthy spice lead to a refined palate with silky tannins, fine acidity and beautifully balanced flavour. Elegant yet flavourful, this premium red wine showcases the poise, fragrance and complexity associated with carefully crafted cool-climate Pinot Noir.

A versatile food wine, it pairs beautifully with duck, roast chicken, salmon and mushroom dishes. Enjoy now for its aromatic freshness and silky texture, or cellar with confidence to allow its nuanced character to develop further.

Critic Scores

Bright, deepish red/purple colour. A more reserved, less fragrant bouquet than the Estate model - dark cherries, whole-bunch effect not apparent. It’s medium to full-bodied, intense and powerful, with a lot of tannin. Dark fruits, very complex and highly appealing flavours, including noticeable oak. Best if cellared a couple of years. (Five clones, D5V12 the most important; 30% whole-berry ferments. 50% new oak.)

About this Wine

Pinot Noir

A thin-skinned red grape known for its light body, red fruit character, and sensitivity to terroir, grown around the world.

South Australia

If you like Australian wine, then you probably like South Australia wine. The rich reds produced there put Australia on the wine-making map of the world. With over 40% of the countries vineyards, South Australia can rightfully call itself the wine state.

Wines are produced in several regions throughout the state, though many are naturally grouped together, like Barossa and Eden Valleys, only 15 minutes apart. They include such regions as Barossa Valley, Clare Valley, Eden Valley, Coonawarra, Adelaide Hills, Kangaroo Island, Langhorne Creek, The Limestone Coast, McLaren Vale and Wrattonbully to name but a few!

Barossa Valley boasts some of the oldest vines in Australia dating back to 1843 and produces some of the world's finest Shiraz, whilst the 'terra rossa' soils of Coonawarra is most suited to producing outstanding Cabernet Sauvignons. If you're a fan of Riesling, Clare Valley is a great place to explore and for a Maritime climate not dissimilar to parts of the Italian coastline, seek out the wines from McLaren Vale.
