Backwoods Rye Whisky Shiraz Batch #6 is produced from a mash bill of 60% heritage rye, 25% pale malt, 10% wheat, and 5% chocolate malt — grain sourced from farms in the Riverina region of New South Wales. The grain bill is mashed, fermented, and double-distilled at Backwoods' Yackandandah distillery before being placed into ex-Shiraz red wine casks for maturation. The Shiraz cask imparts deep red berry fruit, spice, and tannin character from the residual wine, balancing the naturally spicy rye distillate. Batch #6 is bottled at 46% ABV, non-chill-filtered, as a limited small-batch release.

Backwoods Distilling Co. is a family-run craft distillery located in Yackandandah in the High Country of northeast Victoria, founded in 2017 by Bree and Leigh Attwood. The distillery produces small-batch single malt and rye whiskies alongside native botanical gins from its rural High Country base. In 2022, Backwoods took out the trophy for Champion Single Malt Whisky at the Australian Distilled Spirits Awards, cementing its reputation as one of Victoria's leading craft producers. The Rye Whisky Shiraz Cask range was first released in August 2020 and has continued as a series of numbered batches, each drawing on Shiraz casks from Australia's premier red wine regions.
