Tasting Notes

Black Wattle Mt Benson Shiraz 2004 1.5L Magnum is a distinguished mature South Australian red wine from iconic producer Dorrien Estate. Presented in a generous magnum format, this rare large-format Shiraz offers an exceptional opportunity to experience the character and graceful development of an outstanding older vintage.

The 2004 vintage is regarded as a terrific year, while the 1.5L bottle format is particularly well suited to extended maturation, helping preserve freshness and encourage elegant bottle development. Sourced from the maritime-influenced Mount Benson region on South Australia’s Limestone Coast, this premium Shiraz reflects the area’s distinctive regional character and strong cellar pedigree.

Carefully sourced from a premium private cellar, Black Wattle Mt Benson Shiraz 2004 Magnum combines rarity, provenance and mature Australian wine appeal. A noteworthy addition to collections of fine South Australian Shiraz, it is a compelling choice for those seeking an older vintage with impressive presentation and long-term cellar heritage.

About this Wine

Shiraz

Bold and full-bodied, Shiraz delivers rich dark fruit flavours of blackberry, plum, and black cherry, layered with black pepper, clove, and subtle smoke. Firm tannins and a velvety texture give it real structure, often rounded out by notes of chocolate and vanilla from oak ageing. A versatile pairing partner for grilled meats and hearty dishes, it's one of Australia's most planted red varieties

South Australia

If you like Australian wine, then you probably like South Australia wine. The rich reds produced there put Australia on the wine-making map of the world. With over 40% of the countries vineyards, South Australia can rightfully call itself the wine state.

Wines are produced in several regions throughout the state, though many are naturally grouped together, like Barossa and Eden Valleys, only 15 minutes apart. They include such regions as Barossa Valley, Clare Valley, Eden Valley, Coonawarra, Adelaide Hills, Kangaroo Island, Langhorne Creek, The Limestone Coast, McLaren Vale and Wrattonbully to name but a few!

Barossa Valley boasts some of the oldest vines in Australia dating back to 1843 and produces some of the world's finest Shiraz, whilst the 'terra rossa' soils of Coonawarra is most suited to producing outstanding Cabernet Sauvignons. If you're a fan of Riesling, Clare Valley is a great place to explore and for a Maritime climate not dissimilar to parts of the Italian coastline, seek out the wines from McLaren Vale.
