    Brown Magpie Wines

Brown Magpie Wines was established in 2000. It produces cool climate wines and is located at Modewarre near Geelong. Geelong now has more than 60 vineyards and is recognised as one of Australia's premium wine growing regions. The property consists of 20 hectares on a gentle, north facing slope: the cypress trees, planted on the Western and Southern borders, provide a warm, sheltered site. This is where rare brown and magpies live, hence how the owners, Loretta and Shane Breheny, came up with the name.

Brown Magpie Wines has nine hectares of grapevines, which were planted in 2001 and 2002. These grapes are picked in the cool of the morning and whole bunch pressed, and currently produce Pinot Noir, Shiraz, Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. All of the grapes are hand-picked and processed within hours of harvesting and the wine only leaves the vineyard in the bottle. The vineyard’s soils range from sandy loam to light clay, and the water supply is fresh rainwater from the dam and water tanks.
