Bruno Giacosa stands among Piedmont's most respected Nebbiolo producers, with holdings in Barbaresco's finest crus including Asili, recognized as one of the region's benchmark vineyard parcels. Asili sits on sandy, calcareous soils with good drainage and limestone substrata, encouraging slow, precise Nebbiolo ripening and delivering wines of remarkable finesse and aromatic complexity. Barbaresco's northerly aspect and continental Alpine climate produce Nebbiolo of lighter body than Barolo but with exceptional perfume, elegance, and structured tannins. The 2020 vintage brought moderate temperatures and optimal weather for classical Nebbiolo production, delivering Asili of pure, concentrated fruit and aromatic intensity suited to Riserva-standard production and extended cellaring.

Asili fruit undergoes traditional Barbaresco vinification following classical Piedmont practice: careful destemming, fermentation in wooden vats with 15–20 days of maceration on skins to build colour, extract tannin, and develop complexity and aromatic intensity. Malolactic fermentation occurs in large oak vessels, with the wine then aging in large traditional wooden casks (botte) for the DOCG-required minimum of 50 months for Riserva designation—significantly longer than standard Barbaresco's 36 months, allowing profound development of secondary and tertiary aromas. This extended wooden-cask age—undertaken in temperature-uncontrolled cellars—facilitates characteristically slow oxidative maturation and integration of all components. The remarkable 50-month aging builds complexity and roundness whilst maintaining Barbaresco's classical structure.
