I am lost for words with this wine. Perfumed and so elegant with the most exquisite aromas of roses, plums and earth. Yet always subtle and complex. Full body, ultra-fine and firm tannins. Upgraded. Fantastic finish that lasts for minutes. Try in 2026.

It takes a few seconds to access the core of fruit in this taut, sinewy red, but there is a beam of pure cherry, accented by rose, wild juniper, thyme and licorice flavors. This turns elegant and supple in the end, with terrific complexity, harmony and minerally length. Best from 2023 through 2046.

Vineyard Cultivation

Vigna Le Rocche is one of Bruno Giacosa's single-vineyard designations within the Barolo zone, planted on steep, rocky slopes where soil depth is limited and natural drainage is excellent. The terroir comprises limestone, clay, and scattered angular rock throughout the profile, conditions that impart characteristic mineral texture and a precise, structured character to the finished wine. This vineyard has been part of the estate's core holdings for many decades, farmed with the same attention to quality and minimal intervention as the broader portfolio. The 2015 vintage is recognised as one of the finest for Piedmont in recent years, offering warm, consistently dry conditions through the growing season that allowed Nebbiolo grapes to achieve full phenolic ripeness, excellent colour development, and balanced acidity—ideal conditions for producing Barolos of power and longevity.

Vinification

Grapes from Vigna Le Rocche are fermented separately in concrete vessels, allowing independent management of this site's distinct fruit characteristics. Indigenous yeasts conduct fermentation over 20–25 days, with traditional cap management to extract colour and tannin structure. Following completion of fermentation, the wine undergoes malolactic conversion and ages in large neutral oak for approximately 36 months, a longer maturation than the standard bottling designation, reflecting the vineyard's inherent complexity and aging potential. This extended élevage in inert oak allows the wine to develop depth of flavour and subtle complexity whilst retaining the elegance, perfume, and structured tannins essential to classic Barolo expression.

Bruno is a perfectionist and this becomes obvious from the meticulousness with which he applies his craft specialising in the Nebbiolo grape and the wonderful wines it lends its hand to.

The Azienda Agricola Falletto Winery comprises twenty hectares of vineyards within the Serralunga d'Alba, La Morra and Barbaresco areas. The vine growing and wine making processes are followed through with care from beginning to end, culminating with vinification and ageing within the cellars in Neive.

The winemaking methods are traditional giving full respect of the grape’s typical characteristics.

Piedmont

Piedmont (Piemonte in Italian) is probably the finest wine region in all of Italy, and has laid claim to this since Roman times. It has a continental climate influenced by the surrounding Alps and Ligurian Apennines, and is located in the north-west of Italy, bordering both France and Switzerland.

Piedmont has only 1% of the total vineyards of Bordeaux and 15% that of Burgundy. So while a top Chateaux may produce upwards of 35,000 cases a year, leading Barolo producers will often make only 800 cases. More than half of its vineyards are registered with DOC designations and many are in the Apennine or Alpine foothills, from 300-600m above sea level. Most of the wines are produced by smaller family estates rather than larger holdings.

Piedmont has 46 different DOC and four DOCG regions, and produces the largest number of well known, world-recognized, prize-winning wines. The most famous would have to be Barolo or Barbaresco, whose power comes from the Nebbiolo grape variety. The most widely planted red variety is Barbera although Dolcetto, Muscat, Shiraz and Bonarda are also produced.

The white variety most well known is Moscato, which is often made into frizzante (bubbly) wines known as Asti. Cortese is made into the popular Gavi wines, and smaller amounts of Chardonnay and high quality Sparkling are also produced in the far north of Piedmont.
