Tasting Notes

80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc

The estate was consolidated into a single block of 30 ha in 1994, including 24 ha of vines in Lussac Saint-Emilion. The buildings are completely renovated and modernized: the most advanced techniques are introduced to the château in order to improve the quality of the wines. In 2001, the arrival of young Nicolas Lassagne, grandson of the owner, brought additional know-how to winemaking and the marketing of wines. In 2005, 3 generations united to produce great wines.

Critic Scores

The 2015 Chateau des Landes Cuvée Prestige is cut from the same cloth yet has the vintage’s more sexy, rounded, powerful style front and center. Cassis, licorice, toasted spices, and dried tobacco notes all give way to a medium to full-bodied 2015 that was ripe tannins, wonderful sweetness of fruit, and a great finish. Made from 100% Merlot brought up in new oak, it’s well worth seeking out and is going to keep for 10-12 years easily.

Ripe and structured, this wood-aged wine is still developing. It has a dark structure, dense blackberry fruit and powerful concentration. A peppery touch of alcohol gives it a bitter finish, which should dissipate as it ages. Drink from 2022

About this Wine

Bordeaux

Bordeaux produces some of the most highly sought after and revered wines in the world. Located close to the coast, in the south-west of France the town and is divided by the Gironde River. Wines to the west of the river are referred to as left bank, and are Cabernet dominant. To the East of the river, on the right bank Merlot is the dominant grape variety. Throughout the 57 appellations, over 10,000 wine-making châteaux grow the red grapes; Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec. These are commonly blended and collectively referred to as clarets. Smaller amounts of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc is also grown in Bordeaux.

In 1855, due to the high export demands of Bordeaux wines, Emporer Napoleon III requested an official Bordeaux classification system, based on market costs of the wines at the time. The Chateaux were classified in to five ‘growths’ from first growth to fifth growth and cru Bourgois. Also in 1855 The Sauternes and Barsac classification covered the sweeter wines, with Chateau d’Yquem the only Superior First Growth, followed by Premiers Crus and Deux Deuxièmes Crus.
