    Château Rieussec covers approximately 93 hectares of prime vineyards bordering the famed d'Yquem vineyards on the western side. It was ranked as a Premier Grand Cru in the classification of 1855 and is the Sauternes is made with a blend of Sémillon, Sauvignon and Muscadelle.

    The vineyard was purchased by Domaines Barons de Rothschild, the owners of Château Lafite Rothschild in 1984, the latest in a long list of illustrious owners that have included the Gasqueton family who are also owners of famed Saint Estèphe preoperty Château Calon-Ségur.

    In total four wines are produced at Chateau Rieussec of which three originate from the Sauternes appellation. Top of the pile is the classified growth Château Rieussec, next up is the second wine Carmes de Rieussec followed by Château de Cosse and a dry white wine from the Bordeaux AOC. The flagship Château Rieussec sees between 16 and 26 months in 55% new oak barrels, which varies according to vintage conditions.
