Distillation & Provenance

Distillation

Delord's 1991 vintage Bas-Armagnac was distilled from grapes harvested on the Lannepax estate in 1991. Following distillation in the traditional Armagnacais column still, the eau-de-vie was filled into Gascon oak barrels and aged in the family cellars. Over more than three decades of maturation, the 1991 has evolved into a complex, layered vintage Armagnac with notes of roasted almond, dried apricot, fig, and vanilla underscored by Bas-Armagnac's characteristic rancio. The boulbènes sandy soils of the Gers contribute a softness and finesse that is particular to the Bas-Armagnac sub-region. Bottled at 40% ABV.

Provenance

Maison Delord was established in 1893 by Prosper Delord, a travelling distiller who settled in Lannepax in the Gers department of south-west France. Lannepax lies in the heart of the Bas-Armagnac appellation — the most highly regarded of the three Armagnac sub-regions — on the sandy boulbènes soils considered ideal for growing Armagnac varietals of outstanding quality. The house has remained in family ownership across four generations, maintaining a library of vintage expressions that document the character of individual harvest years. Maison Delord is one of the important traditional producers of Bas-Armagnac, also producing the Comte de Lamaestre prestige vintage selection from the same cellars in Lannepax.
