"Still blended from the Renardes, Bressandes and Clos du Roi Grands Crus â€“ the original idea in 2008 was to produce three separate wines â€“ this Corton is appreciably more than the sum of its parts. Floral, direct and engaging, at least by the standards of many Cortons, it arguably reflects its producer as much as its terroir, with clove spice from 75% whole bunches, subtle wood and a long, engaging, refreshing finish. "A ripe, fresh and layered nose combines notes of plum, spice, earth and plenty of floral influences. There is fine richness to the relatively supple middle weight flavours that possess a velvety mid-palate mouthfeel along with reasonable if not special density, all wrapped in a youthfully austere, balanced and sneaky long finish where a hints of warmth and sweetness eventually emerge. This minerally effort needs to develop better depth but the potential appears to be present for that to occur."

"The 2017 Corton Grand Cru is performing beautifully from bottle, bursting from the glass with a captivating bouquet of peonies, rose hips, sweet red berries, orange rind, spices and subtle soil tones. On the palate, the wine medium to full-bodied, supple and velvety, with succulent acids, good concentration and a long, exquisitely perfumed finish. Indeed, it's only by comparison with the domaine's utterly suave wines from Vosne-Romanee later in the tasting that this Corton's tannins seem comparatively coarse-grained. (William Kelley)"

"The 2017 Corton Grand Cru is floral, gracious and so inviting. White pepper, mint and pine perk up the red cherry and cranberry fruit flavours nicely. In 2017, the Corton is decidedly ethereal and pointed, with terrific energy and tons of class. It will be interesting to see how it develops, as there is a good deal of structure beneath. Even in the short time I was able to follow it in this tasting, the Corton opened up very nicely. This fruit was brought in on September 4, and was the domaineâ€™s first pick."

"Picked 4th September. Just bottled, to be released next year. Fine mid youthful purple, offering a clean and pure nose, though nothing like the rumbustious character of the 2016. Lively fruit with a hint of orange zest. Sweetly perfumed, fuller bodied than the 2014, a little more velvet but in the same line. Beautiful fruit and mineral acid balance, and indeed persistence." 92 points Neal Martin in Vinous: "The 2017 Corton Grand Cru was cropped at 33hl/ha, picked on September 4 and bottled on January 23, 2019. The heavenly bouquet, probably one of the finest I have encountered from this property since its inception in 2009, features brambly red fruit, discreet touches of hawthorn and succinct use of oak. Curiously, there is something Pommard-like about this Corton â€“ a sense of earthiness, perhaps. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and quite noticeable acidity, and lightly spiced with touches of white pepper toward the finish. It does not kick on like the domaineâ€™s top cuvees, but it shows considerable persistence and should drink well within a couple of years. This ranks alongside the 2016, in my opinion. 692 cases produced. Tasted at Corney & Barrowâ€™s annual in-bottle tasting in London."

Domaine de la Romanee Conti

Domaine de la Romanee-Conti, often abbreviated as DRC, is widely considered to be one of the most renowned wine producers in the world, and undoubtedly the best in the Burgundy region. This esteemed estate is responsible for crafting seven exceptional wines, including a single white made from Chardonnay grapes, and six reds made from Pinot Noir grapes, all sourced from the highest ranking Grand Cru vineyards in Burgundy.

The history of this vineyard dates back to the early 1500s when it was cultivated by monks. Over time, ownership of the vineyard changed hands several times, eventually falling into the possession of the de Villaine family. In 1911, Edmund de Villaine took over as director of the estate and later sold shares to his friend Henry Leroy. The latter's financial stability ensured the estate's vineyards were maintained to the highest standards.

Presently, Domaine de la Romanee-Conti is co-owned and operated by Aubert de Villaine, and Henri Roch, the grandson of Henry Leroy. All of the vineyards are farmed organically, and some even meet biodynamic standards. The yields from these vineyards are incredibly low, with it taking an average of three vines to produce a single bottle of wine. In the winery, the wine is moved using gravity to avoid the need for pumping, and no filtration takes place. Fining only occurs when necessary, and the wine is aged in 100% new French oak for up to 20 months before bottling.
