Domaine Didier Dagueneau is known for producing some of the finest Sauvignon Blanc wines in the world.

This wine is made from carefully selected grapes grown in the Loire Valley and has a complex flavor profile with notes of citrus, herbs, and minerals.

“The Dagueneau wines are, if anything, even better and more precisely defined than they were during Didier’s time.” Jon Bonné, The New French Wine

Tasting Notes

Now priced above Pur Sang, this wine reflects how highly the domaine values the Buisson Renard site. Located on the southwest side of the Saint-Andelain hill, it is a cool, mid-slope terroir with soils made up of flint and clay, known in French as silex.

Historically, the site was called Buisson Menard, and the wine was initially released under that name. However, a wine writer mistakenly reviewed it as Buisson Renard. Since renard means fox and buisson means bush, the accidental name translates amusingly to "fox bush." Didier Dagueneau found the error hilarious and officially adopted the name from the following vintage.

The wine is fermented in barrels and aged in Dagueneau’s distinctive cigar-shaped barrels, custom-made in 450 and 600-litre formats to support gentle maturation and preserve precision.

Vinification & Cultivation

Vineyard Cultivation

The Buisson Renard terroir—sandy-limestone soils in the heart of Pouilly-Fumé—requires meticulous attention during challenging seasons. The 2023 growing season brought cool, humid conditions throughout, creating significant disease pressure and ripening challenges. The domaine's low-yield approach and intensive canopy work proved essential to achieving fruit quality. Multiple harvest passes through the parcel selected grapes at optimal ripeness despite compressed ripening windows.

Vinification

Despite cooler 2023 conditions, fermentation proceeded traditionally in oak using natural yeasts, a hallmark of the domaine's approach. The resulting wine reflects the vintage's lighter profile—fresh, mineral-driven rather than viscous. Extended lees contact through 12–18 months of élevage develops texture and complexity from the challenging growing season. No filtration allows the wine's mineral foundation to carry through to bottle.
