Winemaker Blair Walter describes the wines of 2019 as ‘astonishing quality’

"If Central Otago was the Côte de Nuits, then Bannockburn would likely be Vosne-Romanee and I'm going to hang it right out and say that Felton Road would be the top gun, the DRC." James Suckling

Initiated in 1991 with meticulous forethought in site selection and vineyard design, Felton Road's narrative is one unwaveringly dedicated to eschewing compromise. Anchored in an unyielding 100% estate policy, combined with a steadfast commitment to fully organic and biodynamic viticulture (dual-certified by BioGro and Demeter), our fruit's purity upon arrival at the winery remains unparalleled. Our estate's ethos, extending as far as possible toward genuine sustainability, exemplifies our conscientious approach.

Central to their winemaking philosophy is a hands-off ethos: a reliance on gravity flow, the embrace of wild yeasts and malolactic fermentation, and a deliberate avoidance of fining and filtration. This collective endeavor serves to safeguard the wine's innate ability to articulate its terroir. The culmination is their Riesling, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir—expressions that authentically convey the intricacy of our unique vineyards.

    Felton Road

The Bannockburn sub-region of Central Otago, New Zealand is famed for its soil and climatic similarities to France's Burgundy region. It is here that Felton Road winery is perched, producing premium Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling from three organically and biodynamically managed vineyards, which were Demeter certified in 2010.

Viticulturist Gareth King cultivates pristine fruit in the vineyard, while the same care is taken in the winery. Winemakers Blair Walter and Mike Wolfenden work with a gravity-fed system; a process that avoids the harsh use of pumping and minimizes handling, allowing for the gentle extraction of colour, flavour and tannin. Wild and indigenous yeasts are used in the fermentations, sulphur additions are minimal and malolactic fermentation occurs naturally. Oak use is also subtle, in order to avoid muting the fruit. The Pinot Noirs are unfined and unfiltered while the Chardonnay winemaking is moving in the same direction. The single vineyard and single block wines are made to showcase each one's individual terroir.

Felton Road are recognized as one of New Zealand's finest Pinot Noir producers.
