    • Description

100% Touriga Nacional, organically grown, sourced from grafted vines on Isolation Ridge. The vineyard sits on an undulating northern and eastern-facing slope on ancient duplex soils of gravel and loam over a clay sub-soil. It is farmed using organic viticultural practices and this is reflected in the depth and concentration of fruit flavours. The vines are trained on a Vertical Shoot Position (VSP) trellis system to enhance sunlight penetration of the canopy and optimize ripening conditions. Touriga Nacional was grafted into the vineyard in 2017.

The vines were spur-pruned. The grapes were machine harvested and shallow-fermented in stainless steel open fermenters, before being aged for 10 months in 500 litre French oak puncheons. Unfiltered and unfined.

      TASTING NOTE

Organically grown and made, 100% Touriga Nacional Touriga plays well with others and is a cracking variety for blending. Vibrant cherry red in colour. Fresh lifted raspberry and floral notes, early season plums, dried herbs give a wine of amazing perfume. It’s bold and lush on the palate. Lovely cherry and chocolate characters interact with fine gravelly tannins, salty liquorice flavours and a sweet core of fruit. This leads to a wine of balance with a bright crisp finish. Touriga Nacional as a variety offers good cellaring potential, will be good to see where this goes In a few years.

    Frankland Estate

Established by Barrie Smith and Judi Cullam in 1988, Frankland Estate is located in the Frankland River region of Western Australia. Having both grown up around winemaking, the pair decided to diversity their faming interest and wool business after touring the French wine regions in 1985. The pair is now assisted on the winemaking side by their children Elizabeth and Hunter as well as winemaker Brian Kent. With the belief that the sensitivity of Riesling grapes make them capable of transmitting terroir better than any other white grape variety, Frankland Estate is famed for its single vineyard Rieslings that truly showcase the soils of the vineyard to which theyÕre planted.Conversion to organic viticulture at Frankland Estate began in 2005, prohibiting the use of synthetic fertilizers, pesticides and fungicides. It makes sense; the Frankland River region is so isolated that it is almost free of pests and disease. It is isolated, that the vineyard surrounding the estate was aptly named Isolation Hill.
