Tasting Notes

Giaconda Estate Shiraz 2015 is a superb expression of Beechworth terroir, displaying layers of black cherry, blackberry, and a distinctive note of granite-derived minerality. Hints of graphite, spice, and savoury herbs emerge with air, supported by subtle, well-integrated French oak. The palate is finely structured, with chiselled tannins and lively acidity framing intense dark fruit and a savoury, persistent finish. This is a Shiraz that balances power with finesse, offering real vibrancy and impressive length. A truly engaging release, it will continue to develop beautifully in the cellar.

Critic Scores

This is a very stony, savory and graphite-dusted expression of granite-grown shiraz with plenty of black cherry and blackberry. Very fresh and fragrant. Chiseled tannins hold bright and even. The finish is succulent and vibrant. A truly engaging wine.

About this Wine

Shiraz

Bold and full-bodied, Shiraz delivers rich dark fruit flavours of blackberry, plum, and black cherry, layered with black pepper, clove, and subtle smoke. Firm tannins and a velvety texture give it real structure, often rounded out by notes of chocolate and vanilla from oak ageing. A versatile pairing partner for grilled meats and hearty dishes, it's one of Australia's most planted red varieties

Victoria

The wine region of Victoria has the highest number of grape vines than any other state in Australia. It is home to over 600 wineries and well known regions such as Yarra valley, Heathcote, and Rutherglen. Victoria is situated in the southeastern corner of Australia where due to the location, the climate has a cool maritime influence and is known for their outstanding Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, along with producing Australia’s most famed dessert Muscat and Topaque wines.

There are a number of different terroir levels throughout the wine region of Victoria which leads to the production of different ranges of wines. In the southern region of Victoria, the vines are regulated by the cool winds of the Bass Strait. Central Victoria consists of mostly flat terrain that tends to be drier and warmer than the rest of Victoria, which results in more fruit concentrated wines. It may be surprising to note that Victoria is the third most productive wine region in Australia, seeing as it does not have as many areas suitable for viticulture, which has resulted in the cellar door culture of Victoria being concentrated with smaller, but more personal boutique wineries.
