Tasting Notes

Glenfiddich Gran Cortes 22 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky is a masterclass in luxury and innovation, embodying the rich heritage and bold spirit of Glenfiddich. This exceptional whisky offers a unique tasting journey, crafted for those who appreciate the art of fine whisky and seek to elevate their moments of celebration.

Meticulously matured for 22 years, this single malt is distinguished by its rare finishing process in scarce Palo Cortado casks, a Spanish sherry variety known for imparting elegant depth and complexity. This finishing step is exclusive within the Glenfiddich portfolio, setting the Gran Cortes apart with its refined balance of rich oak influence and subtle fruity nuances.

The whisky’s character is defined by a harmonious blend of traditional Speyside craftsmanship and innovative cask selection. Initially aged in carefully selected American and European oak casks, the spirit develops intense flavors of dried fruits, toasted almonds, and warm spices. The subsequent maturation in Palo Cortado casks introduces layers of dried fig, caramelized orange peel, and a delicate nuttiness, creating a multi-dimensional palate that is both powerful and graceful.

Glenfiddich holds the distinction of being the world’s most awarded single malt Scotch whisky, a testament to its consistent quality and pioneering spirit. The Gran Cortes 22 Year Old is a collector-worthy release that not only honors this legacy but also pushes the boundaries of single malt expression, making it a standout choice for connoisseurs and collectors alike.

This whisky’s 44.3% ABV ensures a full-bodied experience that retains smoothness and complexity, inviting slow sipping to fully appreciate its intricate layers. Its rich amber hue and enticing aroma make it a captivating presence in any collection or tasting session.

Experience a whisky that transcends convention, crafted for those who dare to redefine celebration with every sip. The Glenfiddich Gran Cortes 22 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky is a rare gem that perfectly marries time-honored tradition with innovative maturation techniques, delivering an extraordinary Scotch whisky experience.

Distillation & Provenance

Crafted only for our premium spirits

Distillation

Glenfiddich Gran Cortes XXII is a 22-year-old Speyside single malt matured in American oak ex-bourbon casks and finished in rare Palo Cortado sherry casks. Palo Cortado is an exceptionally rare classification of sherry — one that begins its life as an Amontillado but develops the rich, nutty body of an Oloroso — occurring by chance in the bodega. Each selected cask is hand-marked with an 'X' for its exceptional character. The Palo Cortado finishing imparts notes of dates, dark chocolate, raisins, and rich fruitcake on the 22-year-old spirit. Bottled at a higher strength of 44.3% ABV to carry the full complexity of the rare sherry finishing.

Provenance

Glenfiddich Distillery was founded on Christmas Day 1887 by William Grant in Dufftown, Speyside, Scotland — a location chosen for its access to the Robbie Dhu spring water. The house has remained in the ownership of the William Grant & Sons family for five generations, making it one of the very few major Scotch whisky distilleries still in the hands of the family that founded it. Glenfiddich is the world's most-sold single malt Scotch whisky and has been central to the development of cask finishing in the industry — its Malt Master David Stewart pioneered the double-maturation technique in the 1980s, which is now used across dozens of expressions.
