Tasting Notes

Glenmorangie A Tale of Forest is unlike anything the Highland distillery has released before. A bold foray into the untamed, this limited edition expression is inspired by the aromas, textures, and mystery of the natural world. Instead of traditional peat or standard kiln methods, the barley has been dried with a blend of woodland botanicals — including juniper berries, birch bark, and heather flowers — a practice almost unheard of in modern Scotch whisky.

The result is aromatic and herbaceous, with an inviting nose of pine needles, roasted nuts, eucalyptus, and a faint memory of woodsmoke. On the palate, it’s lively and green, with flavours of nettle, coriander leaf, toasted oak, and a surprising flash of orange peel. The mouthfeel is bright and playful, with a gentle earthy undertone that keeps it grounded.

The finish is softly spiced with lingering woodland notes — mossy, resinous, and fresh. This is Glenmorangie viewed through a more primal lens, less about refinement and more about rediscovery.

A must-try for those seeking something imaginative and outside the expected spectrum of Scotch. Ideal for nature lovers, curious collectors, or anyone looking to experience whisky through a different lens entirely.

Distillation & Provenance

Crafted only for our premium spirits

Distillation

Glenmorangie 'A Tale of Forest' is produced by kilning the barley with woodland botanicals — including juniper berries, birch bark, and heather flowers — before distillation in the distillery's extraordinarily tall copper pot stills in Tain. This pre-distillation botanical treatment at the malting stage infuses the barley with aromatic woodland compounds that are carried through mashing, fermentation, and distillation. The whisky is then matured in American white oak ex-bourbon casks, developing notes of pine, juniper, and citrus alongside the distillery's characteristic floral and honeyed character. A limited edition bottling at 46% ABV, designed by artist Pomme Chan.

Provenance

Glenmorangie Distillery is located in Tain, Ross-shire, in the northern Highlands of Scotland, on the shores of the Dornoch Firth. Founded in 1843, it is one of Scotland's most distinctive distilleries — known for its extraordinarily tall pot stills, whose 8-metre-high necks are the tallest in Scotland. These tall stills force the heavier alcohol compounds to fall back into the pot for redistillation, producing an exceptionally light, floral, and delicate new-make spirit. Glenmorangie is now owned by LVMH and led by Director of Whisky Creation Dr. Bill Lumsden. 'A Tale of Forest' is a limited-edition expression from the distillery's experimental Tales of Glenmorangie collection.
