Acclaimed wine critic and judge, James Halliday, once described Leo Buring as, "the greatest maker of Rhine Riesling in Australia" and "Australia's foremost producer of Rieslings over a 30-year period."

Leo Buring has enjoyed a string of fine white winemakers at the helm. Oliver Crawford officially took over the Leo Buring winemaking responsibilities in the early 2000s, followed by Kim Schroeter. More recently, Peter Munro has returned from Marlborough, New Zealand to take over the helm - already with an acute eye for making unoaked white wines.

The goal of Leo Buring is a very simple one, to make the best Riesling in Australia. A sound definition of great Australian Riesling is a wine that has a profound depth of flavour combined with an elegant steeliness and fine acidity.

Leo Buring viticulturists have identified the best vineyards, and literally the best rows in those vineyards, within the Clare and Eden Valleys to source the perfect fruit for Leonay, the modern flagship of Leo Buring.
