Tasting Notes

Pale yellow in colour with a vital fruity aroma. This is vibrant with stonefruit and citrus, with hints of almond, marzipan and spice.

The palate rewards with an unctuous and filling mouthfeel with a slightly salty minerality. It’s full of bright fruit flavours and balanced by fine acidity ensuring a good match for a seafood risotto. A slatey complexity with a beautiful mineral backbone.

Excellent value, and easy drinking. Great on its own, but really shines with food.

Vineyard Cultivation

Maretti is a Friulian Pinot Grigio from Friuli-Venezia Giulia in north-east Italy, made within the Friuli Grave DOC. Its fruit is drawn from a single vineyard high above the Tagliamento river, on the free-draining gravels and alluvial soils that give the Grave zone its name. The cool, alpine-influenced climate and stony soils suit Pinot Grigio, holding acidity and reinforcing the variety's fresh, pure character. In 2023 the fruit was picked to capture aromatic freshness and drive rather than richness, in keeping with the wine's crisp, direct house style.

Vinification

The grapes were gently pressed and the juice fermented cool in stainless steel to protect Pinot Grigio's delicate aromatics. The wine saw no oak, was handled simply to keep it fresh and pure, and was bottled early to retain bright fruit and a crisp finish. The deliberately unadorned method aims for a clean, aromatic and easy-drinking style, with pear, stone fruit and citrus notes carried by a fine, mineral-edged acidity that suits it to seafood and lighter dishes.
