Tasting Notes

Mount Langi Ghiran Langi Shiraz 2015 showcases the distinctive character of Victoria’s cool-climate Grampians wine region. A Grampians pioneer since the 1960s, Mount Langi Ghiran has played an important role in establishing this rugged, elevated region as a source of elegant and expressive Australian Shiraz.

Shaped by elevation and granite soils, this refined vintage delivers layers of blackberry, dark plum and blueberry, complemented by cracked pepper, warming spice and savoury earth. Silky tannins provide structure and length, while vibrant fruit and cool-climate freshness create a wine that is generous, balanced and complex without excessive weight.

A distinctive premium Australian red wine in the estate’s signature style, the 2015 Langi Shiraz is a natural match for grilled steak, roast lamb, sausages and barbecue dishes. Sourced from a premium private cellar.

Critic Scores

The supremely fragrant bouquet has a platform of black fruits so tightly laced with charcuterie, licorice, spice and black pepper you can't break free until you reach the mouthwatering, medium-bodied palate of exceptional length and balance, the texture silk with a velvet rim. Drink by 2045.

I tasted this in some pretty elite wine company and it looked smashingly good. It’s a Straight To The Pool Room wine.

We know the flavours. Black pepper, black cherries edging into plum, deli meat, roasted nuts and herbs. Quality, saucy oak is smeared more or less lightly throughout. It feels fine and detailed but it also feels powerful and deep. It feels fresh. The ripple of tannin though; here’s where the pulse lifts. Spice-shot, firm but not wrenching, the squeeze slowly but surely applied from the mid-palate onwards. It all presents quite perfectly. A stellar wine. Drink 2021 - 2035+

About this Wine

Shiraz

Bold and full-bodied, Shiraz delivers rich dark fruit flavours of blackberry, plum, and black cherry, layered with black pepper, clove, and subtle smoke. Firm tannins and a velvety texture give it real structure, often rounded out by notes of chocolate and vanilla from oak ageing. A versatile pairing partner for grilled meats and hearty dishes, it's one of Australia's most planted red varieties

Victoria

The wine region of Victoria has the highest number of grape vines than any other state in Australia. It is home to over 600 wineries and well known regions such as Yarra valley, Heathcote, and Rutherglen. Victoria is situated in the southeastern corner of Australia where due to the location, the climate has a cool maritime influence and is known for their outstanding Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, along with producing Australia’s most famed dessert Muscat and Topaque wines.

There are a number of different terroir levels throughout the wine region of Victoria which leads to the production of different ranges of wines. In the southern region of Victoria, the vines are regulated by the cool winds of the Bass Strait. Central Victoria consists of mostly flat terrain that tends to be drier and warmer than the rest of Victoria, which results in more fruit concentrated wines. It may be surprising to note that Victoria is the third most productive wine region in Australia, seeing as it does not have as many areas suitable for viticulture, which has resulted in the cellar door culture of Victoria being concentrated with smaller, but more personal boutique wineries.
