Tasting Notes
From the Nagano prefecture in Japan, Naganomeijo ("The famous brew of Nagano") is a producer with over 300 years of heritage. The brewery sits at the base of Mt Obasute, a location famous for the way moonlight reflects on the water surface of hundreds of terraced rice paddies.
Kisekirei is a modern style Junmai Ginjo grade sake, produced with 100% Yamada Nishiki rice. For this particular sake, white koji is used for a lighter, fresher flavour. Lemon curd & acidity, as well as melon. The flavours are juicy, but the sake itself is dry, similar in style to a Riesling or Sauvignon Blanc.
Exceptional paired with richer foods, such as karaage, stir-fries, pizza and cheese, as the acidity helps cut through intense and oily flavours.
The label depicts a Kisekirei, or Grey Wagtail, a bird common to the distillery.
