Prophet's Rock is a family estate at Pisa, on the elevated western slopes above Lake Dunstan in Central Otago, with the Cuvee Aux Antipodes drawing on the estate's schist-derived, wind-blown loess soils at altitude. Established in the late 1990s, the property farms low-vigour Pinot Noir with an emphasis on site expression and age-worthiness rather than early appeal. The 2020 growing season in Central Otago was warm and notably dry, following a mild spring, producing small berries with concentrated flavour and firm natural acidity. Careful canopy work and restrained yields underpin the fruit selected for this reserve bottling, which is conceived as a distinct terroir statement from the estate's other Pinot Noirs.

Fruit for the Cuvee Aux Antipodes is hand-harvested and sorted, then fermented with an eye to structure and length. The winemaking follows a Burgundian sensibility, with a portion of whole bunches, gentle handling, wild-yeast fermentation and extended maceration to build the firm, sleek tannin framework noted by critics. The wine completes malolactic fermentation and is matured in French oak barriques, a measured proportion new, over an extended elevage before bottling. The approach favours restraint and mineral drive over overt oak, giving a tight, structured young wine built to reward several years in bottle. Specific whole-bunch, new-oak and elevage percentages for the 2020 are unconfirmed.
