Tasting Notes

Se Busca Anejo Mezcal 40% 700ml

Se Busca Anejo is an aged mezcal that brings together the best of Oaxacan tradition and barrel influence. Produced in San Juan del Rio, Oaxaca, this spirit is built from 100% Espadin agave, harvested at peak maturity and roasted in classic underground pits. After tahona crushing and wild fermentation, the mezcal is double-distilled in copper pot stills, capturing both earth and bright agave character.

Ageing takes place for up to two years in American oak barrels - long enough to impart structure and depth, but short enough to keep the agave at the forefront. The nose leads with roasted agave, caramel, vanilla, and toasted oak, with smoke sitting as a supporting note. The palate is balanced and integrated: sweet agave, cocoa, baking spice, and dried fruit all framed by measured tannin and a lingering, warming finish.

Se Busca Anejo is designed for sipping - neat or over ice - where barrel and agave work together without one dominating the other. It’s a bottle for those who want complexity and polish in their mezcal, but still demand the authentic core of Espadin and Oaxacan craft.

Distillation & Provenance

Distillation

Se Busca Añejo is the oldest aged expression in the Se Busca Mezcal range, produced at the Lopes Sosa Palenque in San Juan del Río, Oaxaca. The mezcal is made from 100% Espadín agave roasted in earthen pit ovens, then fermented in open wooden vats using wild ambient yeast, and distilled in copper pot stills. As an añejo, the distilled spirit is aged for a minimum of two years in French oak barrels — meeting the legal añejo designation under NOM 70 (Mexican mezcal regulation) — which develops layers of dried fruit, sweet oak, dates, raisins, and vanilla alongside the underlying smoke and agave character. Bottled at 40% ABV.

Provenance

Se Busca Mezcal is handcrafted at the Lopes Sosa Palenque in San Juan del Río, Oaxaca, Mexico — a family palenque (mezcal distillery) where the Lopes Sosa family has been producing mezcal for over five decades. 'Se Busca' — Spanish for 'Wanted' — was inspired by the battle cry of women who fought in the Mexican Revolution; the brand honours their bravery and the rich cultural heritage of Oaxaca. The mezcal is produced by maestros mezcaleros Rodolfo and Mary Lopez Sosa using 100% Espadín agave grown in the mountains of Oaxaca, following traditional artisanal production methods throughout.
