Takahiro Koyama's new label, sourced from the Pearson Vineyard in Waipara Valley, showcases an ouroboros, an ancient symbol of a dragon consuming its own tail, representing rebirth and renewal.

93 Points Cameron Douglas, MS "A combination of pinosity and texture, harmony between textures and a lengthy finish."

Youthful palate exudes fruit, supple tannins, and balanced acidity, textured and subtly spiced, this wine is delightful right now but also promises a long and promising future with cellaring. This wine is bright, fresh, and expressive of its terroir with mineral notes and red fruit aromas, fine tanni

    • Description

Though it is a relatively young vineyard, Bedford Estate is planted with top three Pinot Noir clones, Abel, Dijon 777 and Dijon 943. Grapes were harvested and fermented by clone to unleash the full potential of each clone before they were blended and bottled. This method gave rich depth and complexity to the wine.

This wine bursts with freshness, exhibiting a distinct sense of place through its mineral core of crushed stones and subtle limestone notes. Red cherries, plums, and raspberries create a vibrant fruit bouquet, with oak nuances fading as the wine breathes. On the palate, it's textured, youthful, and dry, with fine tannins and a polished, persistent finish. The interplay of pinosity and texture, along with a harmonious blend of flavors, resonates on the palate, leading to a lingering and satisfying conclusion.

    Koyama

In 2009, Koyama Wines Limited was established. Grapes for Koyama Wines came from three local growers’ vineyards namely Williams’ (Pinot Noir), Pearson’s (Pinot Noir) and Tussock Terrace (Riesling).

In 2017 with investment from Japan, Koyama Wines Limited purchased Mountford Estate and now all Koyama wines are produced at Mountford except for Riesling Sparkling Brut and Brut Nature which were added to the list in 2018.
