Palate: Rich and full-bodied, with a velvety mouthfeel. Flavors of dark caramel, fig compote, and candied orange peel dominate, complemented by nuances of black tea, nutmeg, and a whisper of anise. The wood influence is perfectly integrated, enhancing the spirit's depth without overpowering its fruit-forward nature.

Overall: The Tariquet Plat de Graisse 18 Years is a beautifully crafted Bas-Armagnac, offering a harmonious balance of richness, finesse, and complexity. It is a testament to Domaine Tariquet’s dedication to traditional methods and their mastery of long-aged Armagnacs, making it a superb choice for connoisseurs seeking a refined and memorable experience.

Distillation & Provenance

Crafted only for our premium spirits

Distillation

Tariquet Plant de Graisse 18 Years is made exclusively from the Plant de Graisse grape — an ancient Gascon variety known for producing a full-bodied Armagnac with a long finish. The grapes are harvested and distilled on the Tariquet estate using a traditional copper alembic still fired with wood recycled from vine stakes, then matured in French oak barrels for a minimum of 18 years, representing a blend of several cask lots the youngest of which is 18 years old. At 49.3% ABV, the spirit is bottled at natural cask strength without reduction. The mature Armagnac shows amber colour with orange reflections, citrus and plum on the nose, and a palate of cocoa, liquorice, orange peel, nutmeg, and lingering spice.

Provenance

Domaine Tariquet is a family estate in Gascony in the south-west of France with a history of Armagnac production dating to 1683. The Grassa family has owned the estate since 1912 and has developed it into one of the leading estates in Bas-Armagnac — the most prestigious of the Armagnac sub-appellations, noted for its sandy Sables Fauves soils that produce elegant, refined spirits. Tariquet's Armagnac is made from grapes harvested on the family's own vineyards and distilled on the estate. The Plant de Graisse is an ancient and exceedingly rare Gascon grape variety that Tariquet replanted on the estate in 2001 after the variety had all but disappeared from the region.
