The Balvenie DoubleWood 12 Year Old is Malt Master David C. Stewart MBE's signature two-cask expression and the distillery's most iconic bottling. The spirit is first matured for twelve years in traditional American oak hogsheads, developing honeyed vanilla, fruit, and light spice character. It is then transferred to Oloroso sherry casks for a minimum of three months — the finishing technique Stewart pioneered in 1982. The sherry wood adds dried fruit, cinnamon, and gentle richness to the honeyed Speyside base. Bottled at 40% ABV from Dufftown in the heart of Speyside.

The Balvenie Distillery is located in Dufftown, Speyside, Scotland, and was established in 1892 by William Grant — who had opened the neighbouring Glenfiddich Distillery just five years earlier. The Balvenie remains owned by William Grant & Sons, making it one of the last major independent Scotch whisky distilleries. It is one of only a handful of Scottish distilleries that still maintain their own floor maltings, cooperage, and a small field of estate-grown barley — giving the distillery unusual control over the full production process, from barley to bottle, in the heart of Speyside.
