Torbreck’s The Struie brings together fruit from two iconic South Australian regions—Barossa Valley and Eden Valley—showcasing the contrast between Barossa’s power and Eden Valley’s cooler, more aromatic character. It reflects Torbreck’s Rhône-inspired, old-vine philosophy.

Rich yet balanced, it combines blackberry, plum, pepper and spice with fine tannins and fresh lift—an impressive but approachable Shiraz for steak, roast lamb, barbecue or a relaxed dinner.

Tasting Notes

Torbreck The Struie Shiraz 2018 is a refined expression of premium Australian Shiraz, combining exceptional fruit from the celebrated Barossa Valley and cooler-climate Eden Valley. Crafted in Torbreck’s Rhône-inspired, old-vine style, it brings together the power and richness of Barossa fruit with Eden Valley’s freshness, aromatic lift and natural elegance.

Rich yet beautifully balanced, this full-bodied red wine reveals generous layers of blackberry, ripe plum, pepper and warm spice. Fine-grained tannins provide structure and depth, while a fresh, savoury finish maintains energy and balance. The 2018 vintage offers an impressive combination of concentration and approachability, with the structure to develop further in the cellar.

A distinguished choice for lovers of Barossa Shiraz and premium Australian red wine, The Struie pairs beautifully with grilled steak, roast lamb, barbecue and slow-cooked dishes. Sourced from a premium private cellar, this sought-after Torbreck Shiraz is an elegant addition to any collection and a superb choice for enjoying now or cellaring for future occasions.

Critic Scores

This wine is from a selection of fruit from across the Barossa and so has less site character than some of the single-vineyard wines, but that distinctive Torbreck signature of plush fruit, polished oak, plenty of alcohol and oodles of charm. Fistfuls of dried mint, oregano, bay leaf and crushed violets partner with blackberry, blueberry, baked clay and the toasty, chocolatey notes of high end barrels. On the tongue, it's rich and satiny, with a touch of alcohol heat and oak influence but it still shows lovely fruit that's all soft corners. Drink now–2028. Christina Pickard

About this Wine

Shiraz

Bold and full-bodied, Shiraz delivers rich dark fruit flavours of blackberry, plum, and black cherry, layered with black pepper, clove, and subtle smoke. Firm tannins and a velvety texture give it real structure, often rounded out by notes of chocolate and vanilla from oak ageing. A versatile pairing partner for grilled meats and hearty dishes, it's one of Australia's most planted red varieties

South Australia

If you like Australian wine, then you probably like South Australia wine. The rich reds produced there put Australia on the wine-making map of the world. With over 40% of the countries vineyards, South Australia can rightfully call itself the wine state.

Wines are produced in several regions throughout the state, though many are naturally grouped together, like Barossa and Eden Valleys, only 15 minutes apart. They include such regions as Barossa Valley, Clare Valley, Eden Valley, Coonawarra, Adelaide Hills, Kangaroo Island, Langhorne Creek, The Limestone Coast, McLaren Vale and Wrattonbully to name but a few!

Barossa Valley boasts some of the oldest vines in Australia dating back to 1843 and produces some of the world's finest Shiraz, whilst the 'terra rossa' soils of Coonawarra is most suited to producing outstanding Cabernet Sauvignons. If you're a fan of Riesling, Clare Valley is a great place to explore and for a Maritime climate not dissimilar to parts of the Italian coastline, seek out the wines from McLaren Vale.
