Tasting Notes

Tower Estate Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2004 is a distinguished example of classic Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon, sourced from a premium private cellar. With more than two decades of bottle age, this mature Australian red wine presents an enticing opportunity to explore the depth, complexity and character that careful maturation can bring to a renowned regional Cabernet.

Coonawarra is one of Australia’s premier Cabernet Sauvignon regions, celebrated for its distinctive terra rossa soils and age-worthy red wines. These exceptional conditions provide a foundation for structured, finely textured Cabernet Sauvignon with a strong sense of regional identity.

The Tower Estate story is closely associated with the late Len Evans, one of Australia’s most influential wine figures. The original development included the award-winning five-star Tower Lodge accommodation and convention centre. In October 2013, the winery and lodge were acquired by Karen and Michael Hope, who had previously purchased Rothbury Estate.

This 2004 Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon combines classic regional provenance with the appeal of extended bottle age. A compelling addition to a mature wine collection, it showcases the enduring reputation of Coonawarra Cabernet and the distinctive heritage of Tower Estate.

About this Wine

Cabernet Sauvignon

One of the world's most widely planted red grapes, known for firm tannins, dark fruit flavors, and strong ageing potential.

South Australia

If you like Australian wine, then you probably like South Australia wine. The rich reds produced there put Australia on the wine-making map of the world. With over 40% of the countries vineyards, South Australia can rightfully call itself the wine state.

Wines are produced in several regions throughout the state, though many are naturally grouped together, like Barossa and Eden Valleys, only 15 minutes apart. They include such regions as Barossa Valley, Clare Valley, Eden Valley, Coonawarra, Adelaide Hills, Kangaroo Island, Langhorne Creek, The Limestone Coast, McLaren Vale and Wrattonbully to name but a few!

Barossa Valley boasts some of the oldest vines in Australia dating back to 1843 and produces some of the world's finest Shiraz, whilst the 'terra rossa' soils of Coonawarra is most suited to producing outstanding Cabernet Sauvignons. If you're a fan of Riesling, Clare Valley is a great place to explore and for a Maritime climate not dissimilar to parts of the Italian coastline, seek out the wines from McLaren Vale.
