Yacca Block sits at the top of Menglers Hill and is a prime example of the role sub-regionality plays in serious winemaking

The soil here is a mix of both quartz and ironstone and the vineyard’s high altitude allows for slow ripening that leads to a very soft and elegant Shiraz. This vineyard site also supplies Shiraz for Charlie’s Garden, and Riesling for The Boy.

This is a big/little wine, a wine with a huge personality but with the ability not to be mono dimensional and boring. In the end,
the stony and minerally edge to the tannin profile wins the day. A great hallmark of Eden Valley, it’s rare to find a Shiraz based
wine the world over that has this depth and unforgivingness. Such strong, seamless and broad late palate tannins. Maybe fruit from
Les Bessards cru on the hill of Hermitage in France could be seen in a similar vein, and it’s with these amazing tannins that I have
the confidence that this bottling with age and time to cellar will sit strong alongside the great 2012, 2016 and 2018 vintages of our
      Yacca Block.

    Two Hands Wines

The idea for Two Hands was born in September 1999 when founders Michael Twelftree and Richard Mintz sat at a friend’s engagement party and decided it was time to make their own wine and market it on the world stage.

The original aim was, and still is, to make the best possible Shiraz-based wines from prized growing regions throughout Australia. With so much Australian wine being sold around the globe under multi-region labels in a formulaic style, the intention was to break the mould and showcase the diversity of Australian Shiraz by highlighting regional and vineyard characteristics by allowing the fruit to be the primary feature of the wines.

Two Hands’ first vintage was in 2000, after a modest $30k investment and starting with just 17 tonnes of fruit. The journey had started.
