Mizunara (Quercus mongolica) is a rare and demanding oak species found primarily in Hokkaido, Japan: expensive to work, slow to season, and difficult to cooperate without leaking, yet prized in Japanese whisky maturation for the unique flavours of oriental spice, incense, coconut, and sandalwood it imparts. The Mizunara cask finish overlays these distinctive notes onto the pot still spice and malt creaminess of the Writers' Tears base. Bottled at high natural cask strength of 55% ABV.
