Tasting Notes

Fruit was sourced from the Agincourt block of Cabernet sauvignon planted in 1995 and Malbec planted in 1990. The Agincourt block is one of the more sheltered blocks and the Cabernet clone is highly aromatic and lifted.

Hand harvested, the Cabernet is berry sorted and the Malbec is bunch sorted. The Cabernet is destemmed, berry sorted and then crushed into the half-tonne open fermenters. A small amount of Cabernet (5%) was whole bunch fermented to bring extra lift and perfume to the wine. Malbec is destemmed to the small fermenters and hand plunged twice daily. Maturation in French Bordeaux shaped barrels; only 15% new oak to enhance the juicy fruit palate and immediate enjoyment. Blending immediately before bottling.

Perfume is the signature of this wine with lifted violets, bramble and redcurrant fruits. Bright fruit flavours include cranberry, mulberries and blueberries. Fresh nettle presents a leafy lift and clove spices dance with vibrant acidity and the elegant fruit drive. The Malbec brings the energy and crunch to the wine. A wine of wonderful fruit purity.

Critic Scores

Deep and dense ruby hue, with purple tints at the edge. Blackberry, mulberry, tobacco and cedar shavings lift from the glass. The palate sings with grace and harmony remarkable for its youth. Cassis, anise, violets and graphite are wrapped in a mesh of fine grained tannins. It carries incredibly long and the finish, when it eventually arrives, is a masterclass of balance and poise

96+ Points – Philip Rich, Halliday Wine Companion 2027 A blend of 75/25% '95-planted cabernet sauvignon/'90-planted malbec. Matured in French barriques (15% new). A very bright crimson purple announces a perfumed and brightly fruited wine with aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry leaf, hedgerow and subtle cedar scents. Medium bodied, this is a good deal denser and more structured than the '23. Having said that, it's very nicely balanced and can be enjoyed now. A lovely example to drink over the next six to eight years.

About this Wine

Cabernet Blend

A red wine blend built around Cabernet Sauvignon, often combined with varieties like Merlot or Cabernet Franc for added complexity.

Victoria

The wine region of Victoria has the highest number of grape vines than any other state in Australia. It is home to over 600 wineries and well known regions such as Yarra valley, Heathcote, and Rutherglen. Victoria is situated in the southeastern corner of Australia where due to the location, the climate has a cool maritime influence and is known for their outstanding Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, along with producing Australia’s most famed dessert Muscat and Topaque wines.

There are a number of different terroir levels throughout the wine region of Victoria which leads to the production of different ranges of wines. In the southern region of Victoria, the vines are regulated by the cool winds of the Bass Strait. Central Victoria consists of mostly flat terrain that tends to be drier and warmer than the rest of Victoria, which results in more fruit concentrated wines. It may be surprising to note that Victoria is the third most productive wine region in Australia, seeing as it does not have as many areas suitable for viticulture, which has resulted in the cellar door culture of Victoria being concentrated with smaller, but more personal boutique wineries.
