Decades Chardonnay 2024
Decades Chardonnay 2024 is my standout wine of recent months. Tasted in December, it was emphatically one of my favourite wines of the year - a wine to sit comfortably next to Tolpuddle and Holyman Chardonnay as one of Tasmania’s absolute best.This is a profoundly complex Chardonnay from Steve Flamsteed, one of Australia’s (see Pavlova and Crowded House) great winemaking talents. After two decades shaping Giant Steps, Steve has turned his attention to a minute Coal River vineyard in Tasmania, and the results are riveting - serious ‘fine wine’ being made. Only the second vintage released, and produced in tiny quantities, this release has already received glowing reviews from the country’s top wine critics (97pts Huon Hooke, 96pts Dave Brookes, 95+pts Campbell Mattinson).
