The Liu family, known for producing the finest aged Pu’er tea in Yunnan Province, acquired Golden Amrita, a small estate vineyard in the Barossa Valley, in 2017. The Barossa Valley is a renowned wine-growing region in northeast of Adelaide, South Australia. The Liu family approached the management of the vineyard with the same care they give to their tea trees in Yunnan.
The name "Amrita" is derived from an ancient Indian word meaning "Nectar of the Gods." The vineyard spans 15 hectares and is planted with Shiraz grapes on red-brown loam over red clay and limestone. The soil profile provides a challenge for the roots, leading to low yields of high-quality, concentrated Shiraz grapes.
The vineyard is expertly managed by a sixth-generation family of Barossa vignerons, and its gently sloping terrain is at an altitude of 320-340 meters above sea level. With the use of Rod and Spur pruning, the focus of the viticultural work is on producing a low crop of the highest possible quality grapes.
