Tasting Notes

The nose is immediately inviting, offering a complex bouquet of fresh citrus fruits—lemon zest, green apple, and a hint of grapefruit—complemented by delicate floral notes of white blossom. As it evolves, deeper aromas of roasted almonds and a touch of vanilla emerge, suggesting a careful balance of oak influence and natural fruit expression. There's a lovely minerality, reminiscent of wet stone, adding depth and intrigue.

On the palate, the 2024 Toolangi Chardonnay is elegant and refined, with a vibrant acidity that provides great structure and freshness. Flavors of crisp apple and lemon curd are joined by subtle notes of peach and toasted brioche, creating a harmonious interplay between fruit and oak. The mid-palate reveals a creamy texture, showing off the wine's time on lees, while the finish is long and clean, with a whisper of citrus pith and a touch of oak spice.

This wine is a masterful expression of Yarra Valley terroir, showcasing the region's ability to produce Chardonnay with both finesse and depth. The balance of fresh fruit, vibrant acidity, and subtle oak influence makes it a wine that will continue to evolve gracefully over the coming years. A true testament to Toolangi's dedication to quality, this Chardonnay is poised to impress both now and in the cellar.

Critic Scores

Stylish and alluring, the enticing bouquet shows ripe peach, Gala apple, vanilla, roasted hazelnut, and savoury pastry aromas. The palate displays excellent weight and richness, wonderfully framed by a creamy texture and bright acidity, finishing persistent and engaging. Harmonious and complex, making it highly appealing. At its best: now to 2032. $50.00.

A lovely lighter lighter-bodied chardonnay offering a compelling package of fine, pristine fruit with just the right touch of winemaking influence to enhance. The nose is a lemon scented brioche combination with a faint edge of flinty struck match. Savoury and slightly cashew creaminess add to the textural feel on the palate. Had about 20 % new oak, which brings just a little spicy lift to the finish. Nice wine.

Victoria

The wine region of Victoria has the highest number of grape vines than any other state in Australia. It is home to over 600 wineries and well known regions such as Yarra valley, Heathcote, and Rutherglen. Victoria is situated in the southeastern corner of Australia where due to the location, the climate has a cool maritime influence and is known for their outstanding Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, along with producing Australia’s most famed dessert Muscat and Topaque wines.

There are a number of different terroir levels throughout the wine region of Victoria which leads to the production of different ranges of wines. In the southern region of Victoria, the vines are regulated by the cool winds of the Bass Strait. Central Victoria consists of mostly flat terrain that tends to be drier and warmer than the rest of Victoria, which results in more fruit concentrated wines. It may be surprising to note that Victoria is the third most productive wine region in Australia, seeing as it does not have as many areas suitable for viticulture, which has resulted in the cellar door culture of Victoria being concentrated with smaller, but more personal boutique wineries.
