The nose opens with intense aromas of dark berries, plum, and black cherry, layered with classic Syrah notes of violets, licorice, and a touch of dark chocolate.

Full-bodied yet remarkably smooth on the palate, the Grenache component softens the wine's backbone, delivering velvety, well-polished tannins and a lingering, spicy finish.

Outstanding when served at a cool room temperature (16–18°C or 60–64°F) alongside hearty Provençal dishes, grilled lamb chops, roasted vegetables, or a rich ratatouille casserole.

Tasting Notes

From one of the Northern Rhône’s most historic and exacting houses, Delas Frères delivers a Saint-Joseph that consistently punches above its appellation. The 2023 Les Challeys captures the region’s signature tension and savoury detail, channelling pure Syrah character into a frame of finesse, lift and quiet authority. This is not overt Rhône power, but something more refined and cerebral, where dark fruit, spice and mineral drive sit in precise alignment. A benchmark release from a producer whose reputation for disciplined, terroir driven winemaking continues to define the northern Rhône elite.

Critic Scores

A very satisfying Cotes-du-Rhone with an an excellent balance of generous red fruit and delicate spicy aromas, with remarkably fine tannins for an entry-level wine. They support the long, velvety finish. A cuvee of 60% grenache, 30% syrah and 10% mourvedre. Drink or hold.
