Tasting Notes

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE VINE Plot selection – Vine on the hillside between 20% and 30% – Place called “La Tonne”, on the heights of Fleurie, east of la Madone. South-South-East orientation – Average age: 45 years 1st plot acquired by Leon, great-grandfather of Baptiste Aufranc, in 1933. Shallow granite soil with very little clay. Friable rock, acidic soil which requires an addition of lime.

VINIFICATION Manual harvest Traditional Beaujolaise vinification (incorporation of whole bunches into vats), alcoholic fermentation in concrete vats at 23-25 C° with maceration for 9 to 12 days. Toasted vats – punching down and draining (the juice is removed from the vat) then re-roasting until devatting. Soft pressing – Bottling the following year

Grape variety: Gamay

Colour: Bright red with ruby reflections

Aroma: The nose is generous, very expressive, black fruits, floral notes.

Character : Fruity and delicious wine, with a nice structure and substance. The palate is crisp, balanced and fresh. The tannins are fine.

Advice: Sautéed white meats, rabbit, lamb, poultry, sweetbreads, duck with turnips and mature cheeses…

Critic Scores

As the village name—Fleurie, from the French floral—implies, the nose is dominated by fragrant red flowers, poppy seeds, red cherries, and wild strawberries. The palate is exquisitely red-fruited, juicy, and adorned with silky tannins, so soft that they are almost invisible, contributing to its relatively light silhouette. It's a fragrant, lovely style to gulp down at a breezy picnic.

Vinification & Cultivation

Crafted only for our premium wines

Vineyard Cultivation

Domaine Aufranc operates in Fleurie, one of Beaujolais' ten crus and home to lighter, more elegant expressions of Gamay. The Quatre Chemins vineyard sits on south-facing slopes with mixed granite and schistose soils that impart mineral elegance and finesse. The domaine focuses on low-yield viticulture to concentrate flavour in the fruit. The 2022 vintage in Beaujolais was warm and even-ripening, allowing optimal maturity without excessive alcohol, ideal conditions for Fleurie's delicate fruit-forward style.

Vinification

Fleurie typically employs semi-carbonic or carbonic maceration to preserve aromatic purity and fresh character. Domaine Aufranc uses traditional whole-bunch maceration lasting 8–10 days, yielding bright cherry and floral aromatics. Post-maceration, the wine is pressed gently and aged briefly in concrete or neutral vessels to avoid oak interference. The 2022 was bottled relatively early to capture Fleurie's fresh, elegant character and lower tannin expression compared to heavier Beaujolais crus.
