Tasting Notes

The surprisingly cool, maritime conditions at Langhorne Creek allow for a slow even ripening where fresh natural acidity and varietal fruit characters are retained.

The grapes for the 2019 Reserve Chardonnay were picked from the most outstanding block of chardonnay on the property and gently pressed prior to barrel fermentation and maturation in French oak.

Elements of wild yeast fermentation, extended time on yeast lees and partial malo-lactic fermentation have added complexity and enhanced the natural citrus and nectarine flavours in the wine.

An elegant wine with a long and textured finish, which has the capacity to age gracefully in the bottle over the next 6 to 8 years

Critic Scores

"Bright, light to mid-yellow colour with a herbal, vegetal, silage and aroma, a strongly-oaked wine with a lot of vegetal notes. Full and soft, round and easygoing in the mouth, with generous Cognac-like oak and cleansing dryness to finish."

"Pressed to barrels (30% new) for wild fermentation. All the smart chardonnay techniques in play, 9 months on lees with minimal bâttonage. Lovely ripe flavours, of melon more than peach. Barrel-ferment characters like a touch of gingery spice, while the citrus elements push just a little towards tangy mandarin. Plenty on offer at this price."

About this Wine

Chardonnay

A versatile white grape grown worldwide, ranging in style from lean and mineral to rich and oak-aged.

South Australia

If you like Australian wine, then you probably like South Australia wine. The rich reds produced there put Australia on the wine-making map of the world. With over 40% of the countries vineyards, South Australia can rightfully call itself the wine state.

Wines are produced in several regions throughout the state, though many are naturally grouped together, like Barossa and Eden Valleys, only 15 minutes apart. They include such regions as Barossa Valley, Clare Valley, Eden Valley, Coonawarra, Adelaide Hills, Kangaroo Island, Langhorne Creek, The Limestone Coast, McLaren Vale and Wrattonbully to name but a few!

Barossa Valley boasts some of the oldest vines in Australia dating back to 1843 and produces some of the world's finest Shiraz, whilst the 'terra rossa' soils of Coonawarra is most suited to producing outstanding Cabernet Sauvignons. If you're a fan of Riesling, Clare Valley is a great place to explore and for a Maritime climate not dissimilar to parts of the Italian coastline, seek out the wines from McLaren Vale.
