Vinification & Cultivation

Vineyard Cultivation

Massolino's Langhe Nebbiolo is sourced from selected vineyards within the broader Langhe hills region, where Nebbiolo thrives in varied microclimates and soils — a blend of marl, limestone, and clay that delivers complexity without the extreme structure of Barolo's specific crus. The 2023 vintage presented a notably warm and early-ripening year, with spring frost risks minimized and flowering occurring in ideal conditions. Summer heat was tempered by August rains that refreshed the vines and encouraged steady, even ripening into October. Grapes were harvested selectively by hand at optimal ripeness, with careful fruit selection in the vineyard and winery to ensure consistency in the final blend.

Vinification

Langhe Nebbiolo fermented in temperature-controlled vessels using wild yeasts, with fermentation lasting 14–18 days — shorter than Barolo protocols to preserve freshness and aromatic character. Post-fermentation maceration lasted five to seven days. The wine matured in a combination of neutral wooden barrels and stainless steel for 12–14 months, a regime designed to develop structure and complexity without imposing oak dominance. Malolactic fermentation occurred naturally during the early months of maturation. Bottling followed without fining or filtration, preserving the wine's texture and subtle aromatic finesse.
